Earlier this evening with met with Fe, who works on Bishop Pachao's staff here in this diocese. After being briefed by Fe of the plans for the next few days we were taken to meet Bishop Pachao for dinner at a restaurant called Mario's. As a surprise, Bishop Tim and Mary Zabala joined us!
Fe had shared with us that There are 14 women clergy here in the diocese, the most of any diocese in this Province. I talked to Bp. Pachao about this briefly. Apparently there are 32 clergy total for 48 congregations! As the mandatory retirement age for clergy here is 60, it is interesting to note that the vast majority of priests were young vocations. We talked about the difference between this situation there and our situation in TEC with second career or slightly older vocations.
We enjoyed a lovely meal together and talked about church and our families. It was wonderful to see the Zabalas in the diocese in which he served as Bishop Diocesan. Bishop Zabala was the first Diocesan bishop of this diocese, Bishop Pachao is the second.
I wonder what turning around the diocese tomorrow will bring? Can't wait!
