Day 17: Florence

A slow start to the day given the running we've been doing the last few days.

Went to the grocery store and then the bakery and cafe in the neighborhood.

We then continued on our loosely planned day.

We walked a different way than we have before and saw some beautiful buildings including this one:

We walked more and found this beautifu piazza in front of a church:

We went into the church -- Ognissanti--
To discover that this church, built in 1250, is chock full of art treasures! It is beautiful! Botticelli is buried there. Here are some pictures from the inside:

I lit a candle and said prayers for those I have been carrying on my heart this trip and for those who have recently been added . . .

Every inch of the church was beautiful!

There is a statue in the piazza outside the church of hercules and the lion:

An older Italian woman sitting in the plaza thanked me for admiring the art in her city!

We continued on our walk -- we passed by beautiful shops and ended up at lunch at Mama Ginas-- delicious!

We continued on -- powered by pasta -- and went to the Pitti Palace and Boboli Garden:

The Neptune fountain had a beautiful heron perched on it:

It was a beautiful walk through the garden!

We came back to St. James and rested before what would be the Jardine Sisters going away/birthday dinner at our now favorite place --

And a few more door knobs/knockers:

Walked 17,071 steps -- 6.57 miles today.
